Alright, so I said I wasn’t going to be back until June 10th but I felt so disconnected. I’ve been indulging in reading articles, watching videos, and listening to podcasts for packing breaks. Continue Reading

On the Move Until June 10th

Dear Friends,

I was trying to avoid doing this but I want to be present and bring you the best I can with every post I write. But I’m distracted.

My husband and I are in the midst of packing and purging our apartment in San Francisco to relocate to London. We’ve been in SF for 5 1/2 years and wrapping it is not easy, as I’m sure you’re aware if you’ve moved across the country or world. This is our first move overseas and trying to edit down our belongings into take, store, and sell piles is challenging.

We’re also saying farewell to many close friends and family, which is hard emotionally. Don’t get me wrong–we’re very excited for what lies ahead for us in one of the most amazing cities in the world. But my mind is elsewhere when I sit down to write, and I don’t want to waste your time.

So with much hesitation, I’ve decided to work on content on the side and have much more ready for you come June 10th when we’re settled in London.

I’ll still be posting on Twitter and Facebook over the next few weeks so stay in touch there!

Thank you for understanding + supporting me with this break. See you back here on June 10th!

Find Your Greatness

I took up running in college to clear up my mind between class and late-night studio work. Today I still find myself needing a good run to work through ideas, alleviate stress and recenter. I have space to think about the what, why, and how of my actions. My mind and body have become accustomed to some form of physical movement to feel balanced.

In the spirit of finding balance and purpose through physical activity, this video from Nike says it all.

Now go out and find your greatness.

15 Designers Share Their Non-Designer Inspiration

This is the second half to 15 Social Impact Designers Reveal Their Career Defining Moment (check it out first if you haven’t already.) I asked these same designers:

“Who outside of the design profession inspires you and why?

Another diverse set of responses awaits you, from business people to food to doctors (you’ll see a repeat), who are all influencing the world in their own way, and through what they do best. Although we sometimes get wrapped up in the design world, I hope this reminds us to take a step back and see all of the good going on each day by passionate people, including ourselves.Continue Reading

Designing with Storytelling: Part I

Storytelling is as old as people have been on earth. Before written word, this is how knowledge was passed through generations of human beings. Then drawings and written form expanded the mediums used. Humans were able to communicate more stories over longer periods of time.

Today, we have more options than ever to communicate our stories–video, audio, image, published print, digital print, and the old faithful, spoken word. In a few years or less, we’ll probably have some new options too.
